Several industry international experts from Silicon Valley/Crimson Growth Ventures Partners and guests will cover the corporate development structuring of company presence, U.S.marketing strategies (specifically, customer profiles/go-to market), Intellectual Property protections, and immigration labyrinths when foreign companies and entrepreneurs transfer operations to the U.S. and Silicon Valley.  After an initial networking and registration process, Bank of the West, Sponsor, will moderate the panel. The notable panel will touch on the major topics impacting presence in the U.S. by international companies. Then food and refreshments will be served, during which a raffle will be held for a special prize.

PANELISTS

Marketing: Azmat Malik

Azmat Malik was a senior executive in marketing and operations at major US, European, and Asian companies in the semiconductor industry. He provides strategy, marketing and operations consulting to early and mid-stage companies in cleantech, electronics, and medical devices. He has advised emerging companies in setting go-to-market strategy, and prepared founders for seed, angel, and growth funding. His focus is in Power Electronics, Cleantech, Medical Devices, Sensors and MEMS. He was Associate Professor at the Lahore University of Management Sciences, teaching MBA courses in marketing.

He is active in the angel investor community, focused on energy efficiency, smart grid, electronics thermal management, and medical diagnostics. He is President of the Engineering Alumni Society of the University of California, Berkeley. Mr. Malik was active in the Cleantech Open Accelerator, and has mentored startups which have become commercially successful. He has MSEE and MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.

Juan Ramon Zarco

Attorney, banker and senior executive — CxO, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary to public and private companies with global operations in over 40 countries. Currently his clients include companies from Russia, S. Korea, United States, and Latin America.

Throughout his career, he has established a verifiable track record of producing fast paced and practical revenue-focused solutions, formulated costs reduction programs across the board. He traveled and has handled business and legal matters for over 40 countries, and participated as instructor in an entrepreneurship program under the umbrella of CRDF, affiliated with the University of Moscow for several Eurasian companies. He also traveled throughout China presenting to various Chinese companies and forums on strategy and entrepreneurship. He has worked in the following industries: media, IT, telecom, energy, medical devices, and data storage. For Sprint-Nextel and with Pegasus Investments VC Firm handled international investment deals and interim President for portfolio companies, handling marketing, strategy, fund raising, and accounting. Before Pegasus, he played a principal role in the structuring, international expansions for 2 MSO companies, U.S. Cable Group and Viatel Nextel, Inc.

IP: Sid Venkatesan,

Sid’s practice focuses on high stakes, highly complex patent and trade secrets trials on behalf of technology companies located in Silicon Valley and internationally. Mr. Venkatesan has represented clients in federal and state trial and appellate courts as well as before the International Trade Commission.  Sid’s clients include Brocade, Applied Materials, CoreLogic, and eBay.  He has been named a Rising Star and Lawyer on the Fast Track and he has helped obtain significant litigation outcomes that have received major press attention.

A former engineer at two high tech startups, Sid also counsels technology companies on their intellectual property portfolios and prelitigation matters as well as representing companies in IP licensing.  Sid has also authored many articles describing emerging intellectual property issues and IP strategy.

Sid was a professional software developer and technology consultant at both startup companies and mature technology companies prior to attending law school. Sid received his B.S. in mechanical and aerospace engineering from Cornell University and his J.D. from the New York University School of Law.

Immigration: Paul Philippe Bertoni 

U.S. Immigration Solutions Based Upon Work or Investment.

Paul Philippe Bertoni practices immigration law in San Francisco, focusing on employment-based and investment-based cases for emerging growth companies and multinational corporations. He holds degrees from Yale (B.A. in Political Science 1993) and UC Berkeley-Boalt Hall School of Law (J.D. 1997).
